The distressingly finite quality of time ....
I have gotten a few queries from writers who apparently didn't join the mailing list. To reiterate: I am still going to post all accepted materials as soon as I have time. I have not had a decent bit of time to do so yet. I'm going to try hard to make some headway this weekend. I appreciate everyone's patience. | | Wednesday, August 29th, 2001 | | 10:43 pm |
Dark Planet is on indefinite hiatus
Hi all, Due to a variety of personal writing and web design projects coming up this fall, I just won't have the proper time for Dark Planet. Much as it pains me to do so, I'm going to put the site on indefinite hiatus after I get the next update online. I am intending to get the next update posted in the next two weeks. Dark Planet will remain live and on its current server for as long as SF Site wishes to host it. Archived materials will remain available on DP for as long as their authors wish. | | Monday, July 9th, 2001 | | 10:12 pm |
reading periods
We're currently closed to submissions until September. Starting in September, we'll be open for three months, then closed for three so I can finish reading/responding to accumulated subs and work on putting together the new issue. We have a year-round open-three, closed-three schedule. For our schedule and other submissions information, go here. --Lucy S. | | Monday, May 7th, 2001 | | 4:26 pm |
Please do not send .doc attachments
Hi all, Please do not send Word (.doc) attachments. Send RTF attachments intead. This is in the guidelines, in red text, even. Do I need to put this in blinking text as well? People who claim to have read the guidelines keep sending me .doc attachments. Of course, people who claim to have read the guidelines keep addressing me as "sir" as well, but that's a lesser concern. I will read your submission, even if you address me as "sir", as long as your submission is in the proper format -- a text file or an RTF or Word Perfect attachment. I will not read .doc attachments sent from unknown persons. I will delete them. Macro viruses are bad, and if someone demonstrates they either can't read or can't comprehend the guidelines, how can I trust they've managed to keep their computer virus-free? Okay, end of rant. I'm really not normally this cranky -- but really, folks, read the guidelines. I've been getting some really insanely off-topic submissions lately (for instance, a crossword puzzle, and an essay about African Americans in modern cinema). Please continue to send your submissions -- in proper format, of course -- 'til the end of the month. I am really short of nonfiction, so well-written reviews that deal with SF/F/H will be welcomed with open arms. | | Monday, April 30th, 2001 | | 12:32 pm |
submissions status
Regrettably, I'm far behind on reading submissions. I will try to get materials read and responded to in the next few weeks. I appreciate everyone's patience. | | Saturday, March 3rd, 2001 | | 11:30 am |
submissions period info
The new update is complete, and Mike Frasca and I will be accepting and reading submissions until the end of May. Please help us out by not sending MS Word .doc file attachments -- people still send us those, and we really don't want them because we've encountered one too many macro viruses. RTF file attachments are fine, as are Word Perfect files. Also, since I will be going on a trip the last part of this month, I will be responding to submissions more slowly than usual from about March 14 through April 15th. | | Sunday, February 25th, 2001 | | 11:51 pm |
Progress update
I've got fiction posted, and am working on coding the poetry. My new editorial's written, but I will post that last. I have to be at work relatively early tomorrow, and I have a lot of Real Life stuff to do this week aside from work. I hope to have the update completed tomorrow night. Miscellaneous Notes
Dark Planet will be reopening to submissions at the beginning of March. I hope to have the next update posted by then, but I've got a lot of freelance/day job work to do in the meantime. Also, I will be going to Italy for a week in mid-March, and I will be spending a lot of time preparing for said trip before then. So, if a quick response time is a concern, you might want to hold off sending me anything until early April. --LAS |
